What is YMYL?

In spite of the M in the acronym, websites are more than just about being there for money. This will apply to a website that's selling CBD products, weight products, health products, or anyting that affects a person’s health or happiness. In a nutshell, it's any page that can affect someone's health, happiness, safety, or financial stability. So, it also applies to money sites; like the ones that offer financial advice.

A lot of websites struggle to rank higher. Well, Google has very broad and um open-ended guidelines. So for starters, they say the shopping or financing financial transaction web pages that allow people to make purchases, transfer money, pay bills, etc. are affected by this financial information pages. Likewise, where people are providing advice about investments taxes, retirements planning, medical consultation, etc. are going to be affected.

This was probably one of the first things that happened that Google did with their Google Medic update this was last year and YMYL pages have found themselves in the spotlight. So, if you have a website in one of above-mentioned industries and you're not able to rank despite everything one of the things, then possibly you've been hit by the YMYL update. How to recover your website?

The first thing you want to do is to take a look at the EAT of your website. Is the author of the piece on your website (whether it's a review or a blog post) a known person in the industry? It’s important that the person has already contributed to other similar websites. So, it obviously this means that you have links from well-known websites in the industry.
